The Cultural Ecosystem of experimental music and related arts

Panel discussion / INTONAL 2025
As Intonal celebrates its tenth anniversary, the festival has established itself as a key node for electronic and experimental music. Through local, regional, and international collaborations such as Shape Platform, the festival creates opportunities for artistic development, developing collaborations and engaging audiences across numerous cities in Europe. The cultural ecosystem that both supports and is supported by networks like Shape Platform is in constant organic transformation, both strong in its flexibility and diversity, yet weak due to struggle to find spaces of opportunity end economic long term stability.
At a time when many festivals and cultural platforms face economic challenges and cities are renewing their focus on attractiveness, we want to explore what nodes like Intonal mean for places, regions, and Europe as a whole. What needs and possibilities are there for festivals and network to thrive and develop further? How can planning and policy ensure that cities remain spaces where a diversity of cultural and artistic expressions can emerge, thrive, and meet audiences? These are a few of the questions this panel discussion will circle around.
