’Con/current’ / work-in-progress presentation
Julie Østengaard
Location: Black Room

Work-in-progress presentation of the performative sound installation piece ’Con/current’ by Julie Østengaard.

In connection with her Make Sound residency at IAC, Julie has worked with composition of the performative part of the piece ’Con/current’. Guests will experience a presentation of the “live” part of the work, while the work itself will be exhibited at a later date. After the presentation, Julie will talk about the work and process. She will be open to any questions or reflections and wishes to have a dialogue with the audience about the work.

The performance will last approx. 45-60 minutes.

In the current sound-based work, kinetic sound sculptures create acoustic sound through movement of their own material derived from motorized and disorganized movements originated in the acoustic material itself. They interact with electronic sound in a live performance, so that the work can be seen as both an installation and a performance. The electronic soundscape is created from real-time samplings of the installation and spatialized through speakers placed around the room.

’Con/current’ is an interchanging sound piece that blends virtual and physical sound in a virtual and physical space. Existing both as physical sound and figure in a physical space and at the same time as virtual sound in a virtual space, the work seeks to create a relation to modern humanity, living in coexistence with its physical and digital self.
