Plastic Extension of Music is a new form of interpretation beyond the canonical or classical performance of music. Plastic extension considers the musical performance as an incompleteness, a previous step, that creates a recollection and awareness of the different elements and codes issued from the score, the performance, and the interaction with the instrument. To then extend with the same hands; those elements, codes, ideas, practise and embodied knowledge on different media (painting, sculpture, performance, installation, film, engraving, printing…etc), creating new models and methodologies for music interpretation and plastic-visual art creations.

The exhibition is part of the PhD research project ‘Plastic Extension of Music’ by classical guitarist Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete at the Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University.

Plastic Extension of Music 75% PhD seminar
1 December, at 14:00, location: VR/Sound Lab
Discussion between PhD candidate Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete and Professor Max Liljefors.

Plastic Extension of Music emerged from the need to replace, give artistic significance, and widen the practice of the music performer, create a new ground for music performance able to break up with the tradition and canonical interpretation of music. A transformation of a musical text or gesture to translate, transpose, change the form of, to innovate and at the same time, deepen the knowledge of the instrument, the performer and the music.
