Breathing into yesterday’s futures
During two weeks the research platform designed by Marion von Osten will be appropriated by the artist Helena Fernández-Cavada. There, different archive material, a new drawing and audio-visual inputs will be displayed to give a fragmented reading of artistic practices from former artists that proposed a counterpart to the normalization of fascist and reactionary movements.
This research revisits the printed matter production, public art and temporary installations from Swedish artists engaged with international solidarity movements and the antifascist struggle in Spain. It also pays attention to artist-led movements active in Stockholm during the years 1938–1955 that organise towards better working conditions for the cultural sectors and that instigate a conversation for the inclusion of art in the public room.
Part of this research was done during 2019 in collaboration with Sebastian Dahlqvist where we turned our gaze towards former colleagues, their ambitions and strategies for political image creation and collective organization.
The presentation inquiries in the normalization of authoritarian movements and the possibility of any conversation within. It underlines the failures of the collective mobilization, brings light towards the re-organization of these collectives in the peace movement, and explores the potential of the arts to nurture the collective bodies.
