Motocontrario is a composers’ and performers’ collective, based in Trento, which focuses its artistic and research interest on the 20th century and contemporary music. Since 2014, Motocontrario organizes the Festival Contrasti: through concerts and cultural meetings, the Festival has the aim of shedding light on the many sides of the multifaceted contemporary musical reality.
Guests of the various its editions were prestigious ensembles and musicians such as l’Arsenale, Collettivo 21, Imago Sonora, Helmut Duo, Azione_Improvvisa, Taller Sonoro, Appassionato ensemble, Windkraft, Icarus, Duo Dubois, Promenade Sauvage, Suono Giallo, Guido Facchin, Roberto Abbondanza etc.
The collective founded the Motocontrario ensemble, which includes the same musicians participating in the project together with contributions from artists outside the collective.
Currently permanent members of the MotoContrario ensemble are Ivo Brigadoi (cello), Emanuele Dalmaso (sax), Beatrix Graf (clarinet), Marco Longo (piano), Andrea Mattevi (viola) and Riccardo Terrin (trumpet).

In addition to authors of the early and late twentieth century, the ensemble has presented works, also in world premiere, by composers such as Francisco Quintero, Andrea Nicoli, Nicola Straffelini, Fabio Cifariello Ciardi, Karlheinz Essl, Massimo Biasioni, Fausto Sebastiani, Antonio Agostini, Giorgio Colombo Taccani, José Sanchez-Verdù, Stefano Gervasoni etc.
The ensemble has been invited to play in seasons such as the Cluster Festival (Lucca), Incò_ntemporanea Festival (Piacenza), Concerts at the Museo del Novecento (Milan), Il Suono Festival (Perugia), La Spezia Concert Society, Encuentros Sonoros de Sevilla (Spain), Como Contemporary Festival, Bolzano Contemporary Festival etc.
