The Regiment
Video, 15 min
20 March 2014 - 20 March 2015

In the video I interviewed and photographed five people from a Danish reenactment group in a photo studio.
Their hobby is to dress up and role play as a German army units from the 40s.
The group considers it as a way of doing historical research and communicating history. They do it without standing behind the politics of the regime.

My questions revolve around their controversial choice to recreate something they know was evil. A fundamental part of the work is to emphasise the moral ambivalence in their choice and that especially comes out in the sequences where they are posing for the camera.

By also wearing civilian 1940s clothes, I show that I share their interest, and ask them to understand mine and many other people’s interest in the era.
