“VARA VARD – anonymous material, phase 4” is the fourth phase of a longer research project initiated by the artistic duo Brewer & Blennow. Since 2019 the project has been carried out in residencies at Milvus Artistic Research Center, UferStudios Berlin, Danscentrum Syd, Inkonst, Dansstationen and Inter Arts Center (IAC).

The project derives from an interest in the oral storytelling tradition of folk tales, where the specific points of departure have been investigating a sounding and listening body, magic(k), gathering around a common activity, rest and a lack of an author. This time around, the artists will start the process by looking further into what an anonymous material is.

Furthermore, the project investigates how an interplay between movement, text, sound and object (mainly textile) can create conditions for a staged performance art work where rest and dreaming are prioritized.

The artistic team consists of Elise Brewer, Sanna Blennow, Maria Westmar, Majula Drammeh, AdeY and Lendl Barcelos who will embark upon a 6 week journey together that will end in a public performance installation at IAC in September 2022.

The project is supported by Milvus Artistic Research Center, Inter Arts Center, Skånes Dansteater, The Swedish Arts Council, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee and Malmö Stad.
